Helping your church to share Jesus

Here are 7 questions for your local church to help you think through mission and evangelism.

Over the last 20+ years of helping local churches share Jesus we have found seven questions helpful in thinking through how we best release congregations to make disciples. We utilise our church evangelism diagram to help churches plot where they are and where they want to focus. Below are a number of resources we have developed to help local churches.

You can access many of these via our shop or for free but as a charity we can also come alongside your local church in helping you think through your mission and evangelism through our Emmaus Journey. If we can help in anyway, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

INSPIRING

How is the church at inspiring the congregation to share Jesus?

(Eg sharing testimony, sermon series)

We have produced the GOSPEL NUGGET videos that give you some ideas for how to inspire your congregation week in, week out about the Gospel. We also have some video resources such as THE WEEK THAT CHANGED THE WORLD that showcase the good news of the Gospel. And over the years we have created various SERMON SERIES.

This video from Amy Or-Ewing at Ekklesia speaks about how the Gospel speaks into this cultural moment.

Equipping

How are you as a church at equipping the congregation to share their faith?

(Eg faith sharing courses, practical opportunities)

With our friends at HOPE, we developed the SHARING JESUS course. More recently, Marcus and Andy have created SHARING JESUS SOUNDBITES, short videos based on some on the material. We have also produced a booklet, CREATING A CULTURE OF FAITH SHARING, which explores habits and our PROMPT cards have really helped congregations become more intentional in looking for missional opportunities. More recently, we have done research into how Christians share their faith and have developed the SHARING JESUS QUIZ with an opportunity for churches to use this resource here. We have also recently put together the MISSION MOMENTUM SLIDES.

Steve Rouse speaks at Ekklesia about how we better release our congregations into God’s mission here.

Praying

How are you as a congregation at praying for people to come to faith?

(Eg corporate moments in house groups, 24-7prayer rooms)

Prayer has to be the bedrock of all missions and faith sharing. Many churches use some kind of tool to help people pray for their friends on their faith journey. The PRAY FOR 5 tool helps Christians know how to pray and the PRAYER CARDS can be a useful thing to pop in your wallet!

In this interview with Josh Green at Ekklesia, we hear about the importance of prayer as he shares his experiences of Asbury.

Connecting

How effectively do you connect corporately with the local community?

(Eg food bank, family fun day)

Many churches have an existing footprint in their community. The HOW TO CONNECT SOCIAL ACTION AND FAITH SHARING booklet looks explicitly at how we appropriately share Jesus as we serve and THE 5DS OF COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION, explores how to think through how you serve your local community. Our friends at CV Global shared at Ekklesia 2025 a framework for how we connect using social media.

Here Steve and Viv Bateman shared at Ekklesia on 10 practical things we’ve learnt in planting a thriving church which covers some of how local churches connect with the community.

Inviting

How effective as a church are you at inviting the wider community to spaces to hear the Gospel?

(Eg Alpha courses, special services)

The 5PS OF MISSIONAL DEVELOPMENT looks at how we use events as stepping stones for people on a journey of faith with a downloadable planner and the MAKING YOUR CHURCH EVENT A SUCCESS does what it says on the tin. There is a downloadable template here. The SJI team are also available to come and do a Gospel presentation such as LONG STORY SHORT or MUSIC AND STORIES

This video from Marcus Bennett at Ekklesia gives some insights into how we help people journey with faith and with Christians.

Discipling

How effective is the plan of action for helping people on a journey of discipleship?

(Eg mentoring, discipleship groups)

The booklet FROM DECISION TO DISCIPLE explores some of the hurdles in helping people on a journey of faith. We have produced SIGNS as a tool to help people explore Scripture together and our new booklet, THE A, B AND C OF CREATING SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO BELONG is coming soon!
From the archive we also have a few JESUS. THE SERIES. DVDs available that have been used to help people in the discipleship journey and the ESSENCE course aimed at those wanting to explore spirituality.

Pete Hughes gives some insights at Ekklesia into how we best help create space for discipleship.

Celebrating

How good is the church at celebrating positive interactions with the community and stories of people coming to faith?

(Eg baptism services, mission updates)

A new HOW TO CELEBRATE WHAT GOD’S DOING PDF is available now.
